Wednesday’s competition for the Honiton ladies was a qualifying stableford, where the winning players in each division go forward to play in a Mercedes sponsored competition at East Devon, writes John Pawley.

The qualifiers for this competition were: Olwen Eaton with 37 points in the Silver category, Janet Hughes with 34 in the Bronze One category and Susan Hyde with 34 in the Bronze Two section.

The main stableford winners were Elizabeth Ward in Silver with an outstanding 40 points and that earned her a handicap cut. The same ‘fate’ befell Olwen Eaton for her 37 points. Third was Heather Clarke with 34.

The Bronze One winner was Liz Rogers with 36 points with Janet Hughes second with a score of 34. Third was Dot Grove with 33, and Cathy Uttley was next with 32. The Bronze Two winner was Susan Hyde with 34 and second was Sheila Palmer with 31. Countback was used for the minor places with Pam Knibb, also scoring 31, edged into third.

Only three ladies entered the 9-hole competition which was won by Babs Knight with 16 points.
