Honiton ladies held a fun competition on what proved to be an extremely windy, overcast but dry day, writes Ann Desmoulins.
There was little doubt for those taking part – autumn had truly arrived! Ten teams of three ladies played a competition called The Par Counts (with one team having a ‘ghost’ player to make up the numbers).
This is played as a stableford with one score counting on the par fives, two scores on the par fours and all three scores counting on the par threes.
The winners were the team of Catherine Docherty, ladies’ captain Liz Rogers and Lesley Farley with 80 points. The minor places were determined by countback with Elizabeth Ward, Linda Blundell and Vera Richardson taking second and Henrietta Bradshaw, Jane Watts and Jenny Raison taking third after both pairs scored 77. There was no nine-hole competition played on the day.
Last Friday, the second round of the Marker Cup took place (round one had been played the week before), and it took place in very strong gusty winds. The overall winner was competition secretary Vicki Rogers.
