The latest Honiton Monthly Medal competition all started so brightly, writes Andy Wagner.

Yes the day looked a bit grey but the wind was mild and we were on greens for the majority of the round. The first hour of play was golf as usual with wild slashes and miracle birdies until the wind woke up. That wind brought in such a low cloud base that we found ourselves playing through that fine but persistent drizzle that soaks you through to your marrow in the twinkling of an eye. Add to that a wind that was now blowing umbrellas inside out and vast groups of players decided that discretion was the better part of valour and headed for the safety and comfort of the clubhouse, soggy cards abandoned. Still some worthy souls played on to the end insuring the game wasn’t called off (and keeping my two on the second ‘in play!) Worthy winners in Div1 were Steve Waller nett 70 ahead on countback from Alan Devenny with Richard Townsend third 72. Div2 had past captain Dave Morgan head the field with nett 71. Bob Cleal was second 76 and Brian Morrison third with 77.
