We all started with the best of intentions at the monthly stableford meeting, writes Andy Wagner.

I had my son Henry home for Easter so it looked like the ideal time to get together whilst competing for house bragging rights.

Up to that point the Easter break had delivered comfortable spring weather, but rain had been forecast for lunchtime on our Sunday. That couldn’t be so bad could it? We started in a fine mist (not quite preventative fog, but not conducive to expert play). Thankfully, a strong wind got up by the third hole, but instead of it bringing blue skies it hurried the lunchtime rain into place. Umbrellas were rapidly erected and waterproof layers quickly applied, none of which aided the golfing experience. Scoring became erratic depending on whether you were fighting the wind or playing with it. All these things golfers have to deal with on a regular basis, but the final straw was the bitterly cold temperature that dropped on the course.

Hands became numb and any semblance of touch or feel was completely lost!

Having started on the 11th hole the tribulations were compounded as we played up the 18th. That clubhouse was just too inviting and we decided to call it a day and resume the much more pleasurable holiday celebrations.

We were less surprised to be greeted by others who had taken evasive action earlier than ourselves which makes the Division winners this week even more impressive. Division One was led by Charlie Doherty’s 33 points ahead on countback of Ian Atyeo (33) and Jim Wallis (31).

Division Two yielded very similar results with Andy Morris, with 32 points, beating Andy Wall (32), on countback with Brian Morrison (31), third.
