The big news from this week is that unfortunately Water Babes who have been experiencing difficulties this season have had to withdraw from the summer league, writes Graham Ingram.

This has resulted in their fixtures being removed from the table and this has affected the teams that have played them or had points allocated because the Babes did not play.

Therefore, the following teams have had their results removed from the table and their goal differences and points totals amended accordingly; Pixies, Toucans, JD Tyres, Otter Valley and Hi Q.

As a result of their withdrawal the game between them and Flamingos did not take place, meaning there were five games played.

After tonight’s game Flamingos remain on top by a single point, but with four teams chasing them on 15 points. OPG jumped from fifth to second thanks to their win against Hawks.

By half way OPG had reduced their deficit to 33-35 and with Tracey Moran pulling the strings at centre they pulled away in the third period despite good work from Zoe Dunn for Hawks. The final win of 68-43 moved OPG into second on goal difference. They lead Signs South West, also on 15 points by just four goals. SSW were in action against JD Tyres. Once again the dynamic Rowan Williams at GA for the Signs was their star, whilst Amy Philips again caught the eye for JD. By quarter time SSW were just a goal down and once they were in front they didn’t look back to record a fine 65-42 victory. Despite beating Otter Valley Dairy by 59-40 Hi Q dropped back to fourth on goal difference – just one goal worse than SSW!

With Emma Truscott in great form Hi Q had taken the lead by half way and although Rachel Tucker worked the Dairy girls hard they could not get back at Hi Q. Uplowman picked up a win against former table toppers Sidmouth Toucans who lost their second game and dropped back to sixth place. Uplowman had to work hard for their victory and it wasn’t until the third quarter that they took a two point lead at 49-47.

This was largely due to superb play from Toucans GA Helen Terry. However, in the final quarter Zoe Berrisford turned it on for Uplowman and they pulled away to win 63-50. The final game of the night saw Tip Top Trees gain their second win to move up to 9th place. They were up against Pixies, who have been struggling to find consistent form this season. Once 3Ts got in front they outscored Pixies to win 52-38. Abi Webber had a fine game for the Trees whilst Heather Beviss stole the show for Pixies.
