Archant

Honiton's three-ball better ball Open was played on the very sunny Saturday of the bank holiday weekend, writes Ann Desmoulins.

A full field of over 100, a great mix of home and away players, battled in hot conditions, which almost called for the captain’s halfway charity hut to be refilled!

On a tricky course, the scoring was exceptionally good for those who found themselves in the prizes, and winning with a very impressive 46 points were Tim Morris, Richard Townsend and Steve Waller from Honiton, winning the coveted Dave Bird Trophy.

However, the biggest story of the day quickly became about if anyone had a two and, unbelievably with such a large field, no one managed it!

That all left a draw from completed cards for the 72 Pro V balls (almost £500 worth!); six cards were drawn out, with each team receiving a dozen balls, which fortuitously included our winners! They do say money goes to money!

A great day was had by all, particularly seeing so many players from other clubs. In addition to the club’s Festival Week in May, the next Open is the Captain’s Charity Open, which is set to be played on Saturday, June 2.
