The inaugural Brittany Ferries Mixed Pairs Challenge Championship took place last week in Gigon, Northern Spain, writes Andy Wagner.

Four pairs competed, each representing their County from qualifying rounds held earlier last month. Allan and Jackie Seager, from Honiton Golf Club, represented Devon and competed against pairs from Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset. Day one saw Somerset take a comfortable lead with 36 points, with Devon on 33 points and managing to hold on to second position.

Day two saw a change in the competitors, the pressure obviously beginning to build with hole one being a par three, a testing start for anyone! Play continued through one of the most beautiful courses the players had ever seen, condition being second to none - something you would only normally see on the TV. As the teams came in nervous glances were exchanged to see if anything was being given away.

With both days’ scores added together, the championship winning pair were Allan and Jackie Seager from Devon (66pts).

Second place was decided by countback with Somerset getting the nod over Cornwall, with both sides scoring 60 points. Dorset were fourth.

This was a superb competition, packed full of hospitality, which all Golf Clubs should definitely consider entering next year.
