Honiton petanque team stormed to a decisive 5-0 win over Isca at Mountbatten Park, their first ever clean sweep in a match.

Having already beaten the lowly-placed Exeter-based side earlier in the season, the win meant they did the double over them - another first for the club.

“Isca have struggled a bit this season it’s true”, said Honiton captain Chris Bigmore, who continued: “but they still had players with many more years of league experience than we have, and the game scores show just how dominant we actually were.”

The win moves Honiton up to fourth in the Devon League, and means for the final few games of the season the club can now aim to consolidate their position in mid table, rather than looking over their shoulders.

In terms of the match scores; Cecily Young, Tony Prior and Brian Diffey won their triple match 13-8 while the triple of Jenny Lavender, Chris Bigmore and Charlie O’Reilly won 13-2

The doubles began with a 13-6 success for Young and Diffey, followed by a 13-9 victory for Prior and O’Reilly and rounded off with a handsome 13-3 win for Lavender and Bigmore won 13-3

The next fixture is another home match against a resurgent Chudleigh, and they will provide a much sterner test for Honiton.
