Honiton based power lifter Chris Morgan has won his eighth British Championship title.

Morgan landed his latest honour at the British Deadlift Championships held in Stafford.

He completed lifts of 220, 250 and then 272.5 kilo’s (600 pounds) off a body weight of 82kg to clinch the open title in the 82.5kg class.

His final lift was a lifetime best and it also clinched him the overall Best Male Deadlift trophy.

Speaking after his triumph Morgan said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won an eighth British Championship and also the Best Lifter award. This was my last competition as a Ssnior athlete, as I’m about to move into the masters category 1 lifter (40 plus). I seem to be getting stronger with age so the plan is to continue lifting in Open Deadlift competitions whilst I’m still enjoying it!”

He continued: “I would like to thank all of my colleagues in the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association for the support and inspiration they have provided me throughout my career so far.”

Morgan has now qualified to defend his World Deadlift Championship in Antwerp (Belgium) in June and his European Deadlifit Championship in Cherkassy (Ukraine) in September.
