In glorious sunshine with the course in tip-top condition, 76 seniors fought it out on Friday for the Ron Blatchford Cup, writes Ann Desmoulins.

This was given in 2008 to reward a senior champion and played in the same week that the club championship is held.

It was the first opportunity for the seniors to welcome new secretary Phil Wall following the retirement of Angus Falconer, due to ill health.

There were five twos recorded and scored by John Birch, Max Pipe, John Fleetwood, David Armstrong and Bob Bilyard - each getting 10 balls.

There was even greater praise though for Nigel Broadbent, who achieved an eagle at the par five 14th.

The winner of Division Two was Fred Thomas with his 39 points with the runner-up being Ken Wood on 38. Steve Blundell (37) and Rob Stickland (36) also featured in a close contest.

The winner of both Division One and the Ron Blatchford Cup was Bill Phillips with an excellent 43 points.

The runner-up was Mike Ward and others to feature were Chris Street (37) and Dave Maggs (36).
