The Forces March 5 Ultra-Marathon takes place over five days, writes Judy Davey.

This year’s event began on May 24, and was, for the sixth time, organised by the Veterans’ Charity.

It starts in Ilfracombe and passes through glorious countryside in Exmoor, the Quantock Hills, rural Somerset and much of Salisbury Plain finishing in Bulford, Wiltshire.

Honiton Running Club’s Stephen Boyes, together with his friends from Axe Valley Runners, Steve Reynolds and Geoff Woodward, completed the 137 miles over the five five days and Boyes was delighted to land a sixth place finish, completing the event in under 25 hours.
