Honiton Running Club members Kevin Hawker, Julie Payne and Kathy Layzell ran the Bridgwater Half last Sunday, writes Judy Davey.
It was a very hot day on a fairly flat course with a few hills in the middle. Kevin came a brilliant fifth overall and first in age group in 1:16:30.
He was particularly pleased as it is part of his marathon training and follows a heavy mileage week.
Julie also had a very impressive run finishing in 1:35:20 and first in age group, 55th overall. Kathy had a good run, but suffered from the heat during the last three miles finishing in 2:16:27 and 257th place.
The race was won by Oliver Berry of Taunton AC in a time of 1:13:48 and there were 297 finishers.
Howard Bidmead was in North Hampshire at the previous weekend and took part in the Englefield 10k, a multi terrain run which takes place completely in the grounds of Englefield House.
Conditions were warm and humid as 262 runners took on a relatively flat course across fields and tracks which had stunning views. Runners struggled with a long steep hill between seven and eight km before a sharp descent to the finish. Howard continued his fine form finishing 39th in 46.32. The race was won by Scott Kennedy from Blackwater Valley Runners in 37.35.
