Three Honiton Running Club (HRC) members went to Pecorama in Beer to take part in the Beer Blazer which was over 10 miles for the first time this year, writes Judy Davey.

There was also a 5k race on offer. It was sunny with a cooling breeze for the race which had 136 finishers in the 10 mile event and 73 in the 5k.

The going was dry with only one river crossing at 10 miles. The course had mile markers and the last mile seemed very long!

Rod Inglis came in 19th in 1:29:11, taking the prize for first in M60 cat. Kelvin Peard was 46th in 1:44:35 and Simon Gilbert was 19th in the 5k in 29:15.

The prize came as a complete surprise for Rod who was sure that several of the South West Roadrunners had beaten him to it.

On the first Sunday of May, another HRC member, Rachel Hennessey, ran the Belfast City Marathon which was being held on a Sunday for the first time with a new faster and flatter route.

There was an issue with an extra 0.3 miles being added, but it was a great run with great crowd support. Rachel completed the event in a time of 4:13 which is, for her, now a new marathon PB by about half an hour!
