Honiton’s Coates wins Goldsmith Salver

Devon golf championships held at Honiton GC
The Devon County Golf Union handicap championship was held over two days at Honiton Golf Club, writes Jock Todd.
The winner of the Devon Challenge Cup with the best net score over 36 holes was 15-year-old 9 h/cap player James Bradly from Wrangaton GC with a score of 74 + 64 = 135.
It was a great win for James, as his brother Anthony, who is a Devon first team player, won the Challenge Cup in 2009.
The winner of The Western Morning News Cup, with the best scratch score over 36 holes, was 16-year-old Jimmy Mullen from Royal North Devon GC with a score of 71 + 67 =138.
The Brockman Cup for the best team was won by Libbaton GC: P Short, C Drew and J Middleton with a score of 435.
The subsidiary 18 holes Stableford for the Goldsmith Salver was won by Paul Coates from Honiton GC with 40 Stableford points.
Geoff Rogers, the President of Devon County Golf Union presented the trophies and thanked Honiton GC for hosting the event over two days.
