Honiton's Evans makes second successive visit to Leamington Spa

Your intrepid reporters travelled to Leamington to support Honiton's Sue Evans and saw her reach the national quarter final of the Champion of Champions, write Julie Grant and Ann Brown.

Once again Sue did us proud, winning through to the last eight in England for the second year running. Well done, Sue!

Honiton club friendlies have gone well recently. First up there was a 91-82 victory over United Services Barnstaple with the top rink being the one of Maureen Willcocks, Jimmy Smith and Roger Binmore (23-8).

Next up a 90-44 success over Dunkeswell with the top rink; Yvonne Williams, Daphne Courtnay,and Alan Fuller (27-5).

A close encounter with hosts Wellington resulted in a single shot 75-74 Honiton victory with the top rink; Myra Singleton, June Lee, David Downs and Peter Baker (26-11). In this contest the team were well behind in the run-up to tea. However, post tea turned on the style to record that narrow success.

The men’s Over-60s Triples League A team, fighting to avoid relegation, gained one point from a meeting with Uffculme thanks to Paul Clark, Fred Dart and Dick Summers.

In the Triples County League (TCL) there was an 85-61 victory at Seaton with the top Honiton rink being; Peter Goodwin, Ann Hillyear, Heather Chambers and Mike Smith (21-10).

In the Honiton ladies Invitation Triples competition a team from Budleigh - Anne Vincent, Jen Derbyshire and Marilyn Jackson - were victorious by 17 shots. A Honiton team came second and the booby prize was won by the Sidmouth team of Mary Turner, Susie Bonnell and Zena Johnson who came bottom!

On a lovely sunny afternoon last Saturday eight pairs of ladies played for the Betty Dibble trophy.

This internal drawn competition played over 16 ends was won by Berry Maynard and Joan Mackintosh.
