Honiton’s Gerry Hartley Memorial meeting is a family affair

Those Phillips boys are a competitive crew but this week it was just father Julian (in Division Two) pitted against youngest son, Ben (Division One), in the Gerry Hartley Memorial Stableford at Honiton, writes Andy Wagner.

Of course there was the small thing of the rest of the field being there, but believe me family bragging rights are everything!

Poor old Dad must have thought he’d had a cracking day when he came in with a one under par 37points, but knew it wasn’t to be when Ben carded a spectacular 41 points!

On most days this would have given him the prize with ease, but coming up on the blind side (or in Mike’s case half-blind side), was old stager Mike Godfrey with an incredible 43 points.

Still, those family bragging rights will ring loud and clear for another week, eh Ben?

The final positions were: Division One, Ben Phillips 41, Nick Richards 39, and Richard Beard 38. Division Two was topped by Mike Godfrey 43, Ian Banfield 38 and Julian Phillips 37.
