Honiton Sea Angling Club were well represented at the Chesil Championships, held along stretches of the popular Dorset beach, writes Mike Spiller.

The competition, organised by West Bay Sea Angling Group, is now into its 43rd year and there were 113 anglers taking part in the 2015 challenge.

The event is always popular and generally attracts many of the top match sea anglers from across the south of Britain.

This year’s event was won by Terry Hartnell who is a member of both Honiton SAC and the Beer and District club.

It was reported that the fishing was hard going by most in the six-hour match. Hartnell weighed in four plaice for a total weight of 1.60 kilos (3.5lbs) which was sufficient to land him the £250 first prize.

Terry said he was over the moon to succeed in the event, especially after just returning home from a month long holiday in Australia! Ollie Mears of the host club, West Bay SAC, finished second, weighing in five smaller plaice.

In other Honiton SAC news the popular casting tuition/practice has once again started.

The Wednesday evening training is open to anyone who would like to cast further and safer.

It’s run in a field local to Honiton and is run by the England casting team member and manager Dennis Retter. Anyone that would like to join in can find more details from the club website www.honitonsac.co.uk or take a look at the club Facebook page.
