A Year 11 student at Colyton Grammar School has been selected as a member of the England Hockey Futures Cup (EHFC) team, writes Nicole Thackray.

After being selected from the first tier of the Junior Regional Performance Centre, 15-year-old Kye Silver had the opportunity to play with other Under-16 girls from the West of England, in tournaments against the North, East and South areas.

The tournament formed part of the England trials process and players were scored and assessed by centrally contracted coaches who then pick a squad for the all-England team.

The EHFC aims to give players in the U16 and U18 age groups first-hand experience of an international tournament environment, in preparation for potential future involvement in a National Age Group Squad.

Silver, who lives near Honiton, said: “I am so pleased that I have got this far and it has really improved my hockey.”
