Honiton bowler Sue Evans has enjoyed a magnificent 2014 outdoor campaign, writes Stephen Birley.

Evans put a polished seal on her season with victory in the Devon Bowls final at Newton Abbot.

On her way to the final she had to overcome Commonwealth Games silver medalist Natalie Melmore who she had lost to at the all England Bowls Finals at Royal Leamington Spa in August.

Evans exacted sweet revenge for that defeat to land a place in the two-wood singles final where she took on her Honiton BC team mate Carole Binmore.

The pair served up an enthralling encounter, one that Evans won 21-15.

It means that this year Evans has won an impressive array of titles; ‘Champion of Champions’ of Devon and Cornwall, Two-wood singles champion of Devon and Four-wood singles champion of Devon’ and she was also runner-up in the England Four-wood singles!

What’s more Evans also skipped a rink in the magnificent St Johns Trophy success by Devon at Royal Leamnington Spa.

” 2 wood Singles Champion” of Devon, and “4 wood singles champion” of Devon as well as England 4 wood singles runner up.

Sue also skipped a rink for Devon which ended as runners-up in the coveted ‘St Johns’ Trophy.

All in all an incredibly successful season for Honiton’s ‘Queen of the green’.
