The Honiton seniors match at Axe Cliff on Thursday started pleasantly enough, then the cloud lowered and rain began to fall, writes Ann Desmoulins.
The home captain had the hooter, to call play off, in his hand and just as he was considering this the cloud lifted, the temperature went up and golf was playable in sunny conditions. Always a friendly encounter, whilst still a competition, it also allowed many to meet up with old friends and reminisce of past glories.
This time honours were even with the match ending a 3-3 draw. On Friday, the seniors played their June Medal with nearly 60 members finding the course a challenge.
Lower 70 scores were frequently presented until Tom Stanton handed in his 65, only to be pipped by Tom Tunnicliffe on countback.
Both have handicap reductions, but he was declared the winner, of Division Two, the competition and the June Medal tankard.
Following them were Howard Pritchard and David Anderson both with 71. Division One was won by Chris Street with 71, ahead of Alan Pollock, followed by Bill Eaton and Derek Keen with their 72. Six members achieved a two – earning themselves six balls each.
