The Honiton seniors found that conditions were good for the weekday away match against East Devon at Budleigh Salterton – and it certainly turned out to be a close encounter, writes Ann Desmoulins.

Whilst Honiton went down 4-2 in the end, two matches turned round on the 18th in East Devon’s favour.

Honiton match captain Steve Butcher hopes to keep the same team when both sides meet up again in August.

Nearly 75 players took on the challenges of a Bowmaker competition on Friday – where the returned scores were not as high as first predicted.

The dry course provided a lot of run on the ball and careful placement was needed. Twos were obviously far too easy with ten members achieving them on the second, fourth, seventh and 12th greens. Fourth were the team of Tony Williams, Nick Mitchell and Ron Jones with their 65 with third going to the team of Barry Rogers, Bill Phillips and Kit Barker with 69.

Second were Paul Ritchie, John Fleetwood and John Bevan with 71, but the winners, with a score of 73, were Derek Keen, Bill Eaton and Rob Stickland.
