The first weekend of July saw Honiton Swimming Club member take part in two different galas, writes Janet Bargmann.

Twenty-four swimmers were entered in a gala at Crediton where they produced some exceptional performances.

They return home with eight first places and no fewer than 13 second places, helping the club to achieve third place overall on the night.

Six swimmers then travelled to Weston-super-Mare for a level 3 gala hosted by Taunton Deane.

The standard at this gala was very high as the top teams from Somerset and Devon were in attendance.

Honiton coach Ralph Watson was very impressed with the swimmers achievements, which included two improved County times from Tabitha Vaughan and Carys Lilley in the 100m breast stroke.

Vaughan gained three personal best’s whilst Lilley pocked up a personal best for her swim in the 200 breast stroke.

Tiegan Chipping won both her heats for the 50 and 100 freestyle with a brilliant swim in the 100m with two very good personal bests.

Erin Marshallsay was also in great form in then same events with second places and personal bests to boot!

The other swimmer that shone was Oli Upperdine, with a brilliant 50m fly and an impressive 100m individual medley which helped him achieve two personal bests.

Coach Watson said: “I was extremely proud of all these swimmers. All their hard work paid off for what was our final gala of the season.”
