Honiton Swimming Club held their Club AGM and Presentation evening on at the end of April, which was the first time the club has managed to get together in person for over three years due to Covid restrictions.

It turned out to be a fantastic event, as the Chairman and Head Coach reminded everyone of the journey the swimmers has been on over the past 12 months, reflecting on Zoom training and Zoom call talent events during lockdown, training at various pools in East Devon once lockdown eased, and then the return to normal training back home at the Honiton Pool from September 2021.

The Head Coach outlined some outstanding performances at both local Galas and the County Champs over the last six months and then went on to award medals (Gold, Silver & Bronze) for all club swimmers from the recent club champs (kindly sponsored by Honiton Lions Club).

Medals were awarded for five different age groups, for 18 events, ranging in distance from 50m to 1500m (races included all 4 strokes - Breaststoke, Backstroke, Butterfly and Freestyle).

Plus, there were additional awards for Swimmer of the Year, Most Improved Swimmer – Male, Most Improved Swimmer – Female and overall Male & Female winners) for the Open Events (400m, 800m & 1500m Freestyle).

The Club also took the opportunity to bid farewell to swimmers who are moving on and to thank some stalwart committee members, who are also moving on and will be sorely missed.

A great time was had by all the swimmers, the coaches, the committee and parents. The swimmers returned to training the following day, with a bounce in their step and a smile on their face, ready to do it all over again and start training for year ahead.

The club swims regularly throughout the week and are actively looking to recruit new swimmers, from the age of 7 (who have passed their Learn to Swim stages). For further information, please visit the club website: http://honitonswimclub.uk/fancy-swimming-join-the-club/
