Honiton Texas Scramble success for Stan, Dick and Mike

Following the previous week’s very successful Honiton Seniors Pairs Open, the teams put out for matches at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Monday, and Torquay on Thursday, didn’t fare as well, writes Ann Desmoulins.

The Exeter match has the added spice of an individual cup, the Stan Parker, which goes with the overall winning team.

After losing the away leg 4-2 it means that Honiton must win four matches and half another to claim the trophy when the teams get back together to contest the second leg in July.

The meeting with Torquay also ended with a 4-2 loss, but with no special cup on this one we stand a fair chance of redressing the score!

Meanwhile, Friday’s senior competition was a Texas Scramble with over 60 players taking part. The meeting started with light rain falling, but the weather steadily improved to a sunny warm day – good for golf.

It proved to be a good day for the team of Stan Squire, Dick Rowe and Mike Sennitt who came in first with their 63.7 score.

Second were Alan Devenny, Derek Herrington and Keith Major with 64.9.

Mike Ward and George Blake with 65.0 were third – a two man team with slightly altered scoring conditions making their choice to continue a worthwhile decision.

Fourth were Barry Rogers, David Ive and Alex Neil with their 65.6. The 42 balls were equally divided between Stan Squire and Tony Proudfoot – they being the only players registering a two.
