Honiton Tigers Under-8s served up an improved display as they travelled to Exmouth to take on the hosts across six matches

The young Lacemen split into three teams to play two matches each and, although they failed to win any of the games, coach Jon Hannay was pleased with their collective efforts.

Hannay said: “We were much better this week. There were some great tries, tagging and team play and plenty of positives to take away from the trip.”

Hannay took charge of Henry Devin, Alfie Terry, Danny Page, Tom Phillips, Dylan Burrough, Charlie Pickering, CJ Nequest and Bryn Johnson and in their first match they were beaten 8-4 with Devin, Phillips, Burrough and Johnson all scoring.

Some great tagging helped the Tigers earn a 7-7 draw in their second game. Burrough shone with four tries while Terry (2) and Nequest bagged the others.

The hosts were comfortable winners in their first match against coach Adam Kent’s group. Ewan Powers-Maguire continued his try scoring exploits of last weekend with a couple while Alexander Goody and Harry Kent both notched.

Hat-tricks by Jake Giles and Powers-Maguire wasn’t enough as the Tigers went down 10-8 in their other game. Finley Backhouse and Josias Drew got the other scores in a narrow loss.

Coach Ray Hennessy saw his son Robert score two tries as his group’s first match ended in a 5-5 draw. Tyler Patch also claimed a double while Finley Offer-Hoar scored the other.

The Seasiders got away from Honiton in the final stages of the second game to register an 8-5 win. Patch (2), Offer-Hoar (2) and Jake Downs scored but there were strong performances by newcomers Harry Madge and Sam Gray.
