Honiton Town have a great chance to end a glorious season with a cup to sit alongside the Fresha League Division One trophy after they booked a Seaton Challenge Cup final place with a 2-0 win at Combe St Nicholas.

The Hippos were good value for their victory over a team who have just been crowned champions of the Somerset County League Division Two West.

A solid surface combined with a strong wind and a physical opposition side, meant there was not a great deal of eye-catching football played!

Town broke the deadlock when Jack Knight scored from close range after forcing his way through a crowded home defence.

The Hippos final berth was confirmed when Tom Perryman netted the games second and final goal.

Town boss Kev Blackwell said: “It was a workmanlike shift from the lads. They (Combe St Nicholas) made it tough for us and we had to dig deep at times, but this team have showed this season they are more than capable of adapting their game to a different style of contest and that characteristic came to the fore once again.”

He continued: “I felt skipper Darren Witt put in another of those inspirational performances which have become a trademark of his. Chris Long and the first goal scorer Jack Knight were both impressive, but all of the team played their part to secure a place in the final against Seaton at their own ground in their own cup! - What a way to finish the season, and we will be going there to try and complete a wonderful season on a high.”

That final at Seaton is set for Saturday, May 16 when the Hippos will go head-to-head with Seaton Town.
