The Honiton 2015 Triathlon proved to be a roaring success.

This year was the seventh running of the Triathlon, first organised in 2008 by five fathers from various age groups of Honiton Rugby Club junior section, with the specific aim of raising money for the rugby club whilst also looking to get local people involved in the sport.

One of the organisers, Clare Seymour says: “The first year we organised it minimal amounts were raised by sponsorship, but it soon grew in popularity with this years fund topping £2,500!

The event is now recognised as an officially affiliated triathlon British Triathlon Association meeting, a huge step forward for Honiton.

Next year the Triathlon is expected to be even larger with the event available to cater for 200 entries with various age categories starting from 17 upwards to 60-70 year olds.

The oldest entrant this year was Rugby Club president, 69-years-young Dave ‘Stopper’.

Competitors in this year’s race gave some very positive feedback to the organisers; David and Clare Seymour, Luke Owen, Dan Evans, Jenny Lane, Ron White, Will Katene together with Julian and Debbie Phillips.

Clare Seymour says: “Everyone enjoyed the day - the weather could have been better – but it certainly didn’t damper spirits! It’s the first year it’s rained so we have not doing be too bad over the years. Our sponsors have been incredibly generous, but we are now looking for more for next year. The new build at the rugby club needs further funding and if anyone can help in anyway with materials or time, we would be very grateful.

“We shall keep beating the drum both for funding and, of course, the 2016 Honiton Triathlon in the hope that even more people will both participate and come along and support the event next year.”

The organisers are most grateful to the in for their sponsorship of the 2015 Honiton Triathlon; Red Homes Estate Agents, B! Health and Fitness, Ganesha Wholefoods, Honiton Sports, Complete Meats, W E Phillips and Sons, A Dimond and Co, Butterflies Beauty Studio, Power Shoes, Alan Rowe Barbers.
