Archant

The sun is out, the course is open; what more could we wish for after so long in the winter doldrums? writes Ann Desmoulins.

Unfortunately, this did not extend to the Tuesday Mixed section, who started their competition but did not finish as the rain intervened. However, everyone else got lucky!

The ladies’ section held their annual Spring Fair following a ‘Bring-and-Win-Shambles’ competition held over 14 holes with a shot-gun start so that all teams finished at the same time.

In warm sunshine, but with a cool wind, it was a pleasure to be out on the course, although many found 14 holes more than enough as with so little golf having been played last winter they found themselves not used to the long walk!

The winners were Chris Pearce, Ann Desmoulins and Vera Richardson with 76 points. It was close for the minor places with countback called into play and, when that was determined, second place went to Jane Watts, Cathy Pawley and Liz Wood and third were Ann Trayling, Lesley Oxenham and Danusia White, both teams scoring 64 points.

The Spring Fair followed with a selection of home produce, a White Elephant stall, tombola, a superb hamper to be raffled (for the captain’s charity) and the wonderful crafts stall by Elizabeth Wood and Joan Smith.

Money raised was also to help with the travel expenses of the teams representing the club in the ladies’ County competitions.
