Honiton Under-11s continued their excellent run of results with a 30-10 success against South Molton.

The Lacelads made a lively start with skipper Joe Evans crossing the home whitewash after been put into space by Osian Owen and Edward Grimshaw straight from the kick off.

However, a lacklustre Honiton struggled to build on this and managed just one further score before half-time with Cameron Pegg crossing to send his side into the break with a 10-0 advantage.

The second half saw the Honiton youngsters contend with playing up the slop and with a low sun in their eyes for the duration, but this merely served to strengthen their resolve and they collectively delivered a superb display.

The home side were strong, even physical, but that was matched like-for-like by Honiton and there was some terrific defending from Joseph Hynam and Felix Robinson. The strong defence gave Honiton opportunities to break and Tim Goody scored a brace of elegant tries before young Pegg latched onto a long kick to score his second try of the match.

Under pressure, the home side made enforced mistakes, one seeing carrying the ball over their own line!

A set move from the resulting five-metre scrum saw Charlie Shepherd charge into the South Molton defensive line before off-loading to enable Edward Grimshaw to go over and complete the scoring.

The hosts did managed two late tries, but they were mere consolations for Honiton were worthy winners.

That’s seven successive wins for this impressive Honiton team. Man of the Match for this game was Charlie Shepherd who edged winning the ward from a number of teammates with his combative running and destructive tackling.
