Honiton Under-11s produced an excellent all-round display to defeat hosts Totnes in both matches the teams contested.

The home side, a powerful unit, have plenty of direct runners, but the Lacelads more than matched them physically and, despite the disparity in size; a courageous defensive effort was the foundation for two emphatic victories.

In the first match Honiton were swiftly into their stride with Edward Grimshaw a constant threat and the Honiton forwards dogged and brave at the breakdown. This exertion enabled the Honiton backs to deploy their running game as Totnes tired and it was Grimshaw who struck first with a masterful try. This opened the floodgates for Tim Goody to glide in for a brace of tries before Luke Matthews showed delicate footwork to step and swerve his way to the line. Totnes did manage a couple of tries of their own before Joe Evans displayed mastery with ball in hand and blistering pace as he nabbed a five try haul to see the Lacelads to a 45-10 success.

Match two was a closer affair with Honiton losing a little bit of cohesion and the sides went into the break at 10-all with the Lacelads scores coming from two more Goody tries.

After the break the Lacelads took charge and, with their superiority up front via the brawn of Charlie Shepherd, bravery of Felix Robinson and industry of Cameron Pegg, they began to run in tries at will. Some strong carrying from Felix Williams was prominent in three more Goody tries and Edward Grimshaw crossed again before Billy Tarr, Isaac Stribley and Luke Matthews each grabbed a try a piece. Eventually, the Totnes endeavour was rewarded as they crossed again late on, but it was too late to spoil the Lacelad party as they recorded their second victory, this time 45-15.

With such a complete performance it was difficult to single anyone out, nonetheless it was Charlie Shepherd who edged out Edward Grimshaw and Cameron Pegg for the Man of the Match award thanks to his authoritative display up front.
