In beautiful weather for the opening game to the new season, Honiton played fellow locals SOHC (an amalgamation of what had been two sides) on what is the home pitch for both sides, writes Ann Reed.

The match was played in friendly sporting spirits but with each side working hard to win.

This was a great opportunity to give established and new players a chance to build up a strong working relationship, and so prepare for the league season - due to start in a couple weeks.

For most of the first half, play was in the SOHC half and eventually a goal was scored by newcomer, Laura Frank. She gave the ball a tremendous thwack from the edge of the circle, and it shot into the net after clipping the stick of a defender.

After the break SOHC attacked but, gradually, power switched with SOHC under pressure once again. However, no further goals were scored; and this was in no small measure due to the skill of their goal keeper and other defenders.

All in all an excellent way to start the new season, with everyone working together contributing to the good result – it promises well for Honiton’s future in the 2012-2013 League!
