Dartmouth 3, Honiton Hornets 0

Honiton travelled to Dartmouth this weekend for their final league game of the season, writes Sophie George.

Dartmouth have had great results this season and last, so Honiton were expecting a challenging game with some of their regular players unavailable this weekend. The long drive down gave the team time to consider their tactics and they worked very well.

Honiton knew Dartmouth would attack in numbers and so set their back row up with a strong line up of Sue Stone in goal, Sami Parke, Emily Gawler and Sarah Self returning for her first game of the season. Becky Hammett had a great, if frustrating, game in midfield cutting out one of Dartmouth's strong centre field players. As a result Dartmouth were frustrated in the first half and forced to make hopeful passes into the circle, but they did manage to score twice.

Honiton had a few chances themselves with Vanessa Trude and Becky Bond working well on the left hand side to make progress up the pitch and into the circle but Honiton weren't able to put the ball over the line. In the second half, with Emily Gawler off the pitch following a bad knock to the hand, Honiton conceded one goal. by the home team but Emily came back on the pitch shortly afterwards and the whole team worked hard to keep the score 3-0. Whilst the score reflected a defeat the Honiton team played some great hockey and were proud of their result this weekend. With winning results for both ISCA 5ths and Dartmouth this weekend Honiton have dropped to 4th in the league at the end of a very successful first half of the season.

Player of the match was Emily Gawler with Dartmouth's Player of the Match Sue Stone.
