Second was a mixed pairing, Keith Mills of Axe Cliff and Rian Culpan of Lyme Regis, with 35 points and third was Simon Dickinson and Lesley Dickinson from Dainton Park with 34 points on the count back.

They beat Dougie Board and Glenda Board, Axe Cliff, also 34 points, and in fifth place was Brian Newman and Sally Newman of Dainton Park with 33 points.

The front nine was won by Alan Cooper and Pauline Standerwick of Axe Cliff with 19 points and the back nine by John Lidstone and Margaret Lidstone from Great Torrington, also with 19 points.

There were five twos and they were Alan Seager (Axe Cliff) Davie Winsor (Dainton Park), Rob Wallis (Axe Cliff) Dougie Board (Axe Cliff), and Keith Mills (Axe Cliff).

l The ladies' invitation day was a wash out and has been rescheduled for September 17.

l In the recent inter-club match at Newton Abbot, Hele Park avenged their Emerton Court defeat at the hands of Axe Cliff by inflicting a 4 v 2 defeat.

Winners for Axe Cliff were Chris Jowett and Rob Grove, Geoff Hughes and Alan Hayes. l Friday last was Captain's Day and the field of 40 players were divided into two sections - handicaps 20 and below and 21-28. The scoring in both sections was amazingly identical with two players in each section amassing 39 points.

The Captain's Shield in the top section was won by Sid Pember (19) on the inward half ruling with Mike Tomes (18) picking up second prize. The Cooper Shield for the second group was won by Morrison Brown (23), again on the inward half ruling, with Bob Flay (25) the runner-up.

Other prizes included best outward half: Roger Wright; best inward half: Keith Wilson; nearest the pin: (11th) Gilbert Cox; nearest the pin (in two on the 13th) was Keith Wilson. In the evening around 40 members and guests enjoyed a social evening in the clubhouse, when prizes were presented by the captain, Brian Blackwood. He, together with his wife, Margaret, organised a quiz which was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants.

In addition they arranged and ran an excellent raffle which raised £120 for Brian's charity, the Seaton League of Friends.
