Seaton are sitting proudly on top of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League B Division table following their 64-run win at home to Ipplepen which, with Barton losing their top-of-the-table clash with Tavistock, all means that Seaton top the table with 230 points. which is also the number of points for Barton with Tavistock sitting third on 212.

Batting first against Ipplepen, Seaton were led to a closing total of 226-8 by an imperious unbeaten century from Matt Hewer. It was the second successive week that Hewer has carried his bat through a Seaton innings and the team have now racked up eight successive wins.

There were supporting knocks along the way from Joel Seward (33) and Josh Cann (22), but it was Hewer who took the batting honours, trooping off at tea with 108 not out to his name, rifling 13 fours during his time at the wicket.

The post tea session saw the Seaton bowlers make sure their team registered an 11th win from their 14 league outings so far this term as Ipplepen were bowled out for 162.

Robbie Prior (3-16), Tim Mitchell (3-36) and Joel Seward (2-17) shared the wicket-taking duties.

A delighted Seaton skipper, Ben Morgan, said: “Matt [Hewer] was once again the star in terms of batting for the team. His knock was another faultless one and with him in such form it allows everyone else to bat around him. We did lose too many wickets in doing that, but, as ever, a post 200 score is what I am always confident our bowlers will look after and get us over then line and so it proved once more.”

As for the fact his team now sit top with just four games to go, Morgan says: “There’s no denying that the next two games now define our whole season. Tavistock turned us over in royal fashion at our place earlier in the campaign and they are without doubt the best side we have faced this year – and arguably in a number of years.”

He continued: “However, we go into every game looking to win and it will be no different at Tavistock on Saturday.”

Seaton have no injury or selection problems for the game.
