Axe Cliff B Team played Honiton Golf Club at home on Saturday; the home team had a very impressive 5-0 victory ... well done.

The men played for the Captain's prize on Sunday in extremely windy conditions, which reflected in the scores.

In first place was T Glover on the countback ruling from C Hellier, both with scores of 34 points. In third place was junior G Matthews also winning on the back nine ruling from the Captain S Anning, both with 32 points.

The captain presented a beautiful claret jug replica to the winner.

Sandra Walker and Glenda Board played their third round of the Doris Willes Little competition at Tiverton Golf Club against a formidable pair from Exeter Golf Club. Exeter ladies had won various prestigious competitions and our ladies tried their very best, but lost on the 17th hole. Well done in getting to the third round.

With the seniors, matches with Honiton have been very close affairs this season. After an early season 3-3 draw at Axe Cliff, the recent return match at Honiton produced the narrowest winning margin of 4-3, with the home team coming out on top. Winning pairings for Axe Cliff were Gilbert Cox/ Roger Wright: Malcolm Glass/Norman Stone and Alan Vincent/Hugh Willis. Once again the rain tried to disrupt the Friday golf and, although the 37 contestants in the Stableford for the Harris Tankard got thoroughly wet, the proceedings were eventually concluded.

Having already successfully defended the Scratch Cup this year, Tony Strong (9) completed a double by retaining the Harris Tankard with an excellent score in the conditions of 38 points. Second place went to Bryan Dale (22) with 35 points and third, Chris Jowett (18) with 34 points.

Tony was not the only player in the limelight. He had to share this with vice-captain Gilbert Cox who had a hole in one, an ace at the 7th.
