Chard swimmers once again impressed in the second round of the Southern Junior League at Hutton Moor Swimming Pool in Weston-super-Mare, getting to the A final, writes Paul Harrison.

A very strong team performance paid off as they finished second out of six against tough competition, just a few points behind the winners.

There were some excellent swims in personal best times from several swimmers. Bea Brett won the 10yrs Girls’ 50m Backstroke with a time of 38.92. She also won the 10yrs girls’ 50m butterfly and the 11yrs girls 50m backstroke, 39.70 and 38.93, respectively. Megan Herbert won the 9yrs girls 25m breaststroke, 25.73. Lewis Pearsonwon the Boys’ 11yrs 50m butterfly and freestyle, 41.89 and 34.40. Elisha Hawkins won the 11yrs girls 50m breaststroke and Xanthe Dyer won the 9yrs girls 25m butterfly.

Other top spots were awarded to Leo Kindred in the 10yrs boys’ 50m breaststroke and Abigail Bonning in the 10yrs girls 50m freestyle.

The relay teams produced some stunning wins, place positions: Jessica Fowler, Jessica Patch, Bea Brett, Abigail Bonning (Girls 10 yrs Medley Relay). Henry Taswell, Liam Mathieson, Ryan Adair together with Ben Greenslade (Boys 10 yrs Freestyle Relay) and with Leo Kindred (Boys 10 yrs Medley Relay). Jamie Pullinger, Iain Ross, Paul Harrison & Ryan Adair (Boys 12 yrs Freestyle Relay).

Other individual top three positions were awarded to Jessica Fowler, Jamie Pullinger, Oliver Bright, Henry Taswell, Iain Ross, Joss Copeman, Liam Mathieson and Paul Harrison.

Added to that the following team members all achieved a top three position in the team events: Nancy Doble, Daisy Brett, Flora Hopkinson, Xanthe Dyer, Elisha Hawkins, Abigail Bonning, Carrie Lewis, Ella Harvey, Barnaby Down, Paul Harrison, Jamie Pullinger, Iain Ross, Jasmine Wellman, Helen Underwood, Louis Jones, Oliver Bright, Simon Davis, Joss Copeman, Ryan Adair, Ben Greenslade, Liam Mathieson, Henry Taswell, Bea Brett, Lewis Pearson, Leo Kindred, Tom Simpson, Daniella Edge, Florence Swan, Hope Horsfield and Susan Ross.

The competition at Hutton Moor was hosted by Chard & District Swimming Club. The event ran very smoothly and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. It was a huge bonus that by the end of a very enjoyable competition each and every swimmer in the Chard & District Junior League Team could take pride in coming in a top three position at least one race! As a result of the fantastic performance Chard & District have won a place in the ‘A’ final of the League later this month.
