Honiton Golf Club celebrated the Queens Jubilee with 104 players taking part in a shotgun start pairs event with one score to count in a Stableford format.
Winning with a score of 46 were Darren McCabe and Graham Charleton, followed by Jono Barker and Steve Charlton with 44. Third place were Matt Young and Julian Netherway and fourth place John and Cathy Pawley.
A total of 54 Seniors took part in this month’s Medal Competition. In Division One, the overall winner of the monthly tankard was Paul Ritchie with an excellent nett 65. Second place went to Neil Price with a nett 66, just winning on countback from Brian Thompson, also with a nett 66. Fourth was Ian Collier with a nett 69.
Division two was won by Dave Maggs with a nett 67, just winning on countback from Bernard McVittie. Third place went to Chris Shepherd with a nett 68, also winning on countback from Mick Swann. There was only one 'two' scored on the 12th by Brian Thompson, who collected 24 golf balls for his efforts.
40 ladies took part in their annual Ladies Captain versus Ladies Vice Captain match. The Captain’s ‘Blue Belles’ and Vice Captain’s ‘Pink Ladies’, playing in the format of greensomes match-play, competed for their team in glorious sunshine.
As the pairs came in one by one, the live scoreboard was dutifully updated. The Blue Belles took an early lead, with an occasional Pink Ladies card being proudly presented. The resulting score was a resounding win for Ladies Captain Sarah Loader, 6 ½ to 3 ½. Vice Captain Jayne Jackson presented Sarah with the centenary glass bowl.
This month's drawn Tuesday Mixed competition was a greensomes format and it was played in perfect weather. The top three pairs all scored 41 points, so the placings had to be decided on countback.
