Sophie Keech is one of the top eight amateurs in England to be selected for the Women’s Home Internationals being held this week at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club.
Keech, the current number two ranked amateur in England, will be representing England at the event being played from September 9 to 11.
The teenager has just played in the Royal Birkdale Ladies Scratch Trophy, representing Parkstone Golf Club.
This was her first experience at one of the top courses in the country, with perfect greens and fairways with tricky bunkers and the weather held out for Sophie to shine, playing some solid text book golf.
She began her day with successive birdies followed by a par and closed out her first round with a superb eagle on the 18th to finish on one over par.
Her second round saw her one under at the halfway point, but the difficult 10th did for her as her ball got plugged in the rough and she holed out in nine for the par four to take her to four over in total.
She then showed terrific character to birdie the 11th and then came home with another birdie and a second eagle of her day to finish on level par for the round and one over for the competition leaving her as runner-up!
Sophie also won the Royal Birkdale longest drive, out driving a few of her England team mates on the 18th with a very impressive drive of over 300 yards! All in all a perfect day.
