LYME REGIS'S 11-year old star golfer Sophie Keech, who is currently based on the Algarve Coast in Portugal, carded an astonishing 8-over par 79 at her local Benamor Golf Club, near Tavira. This won the gross score competition in her group of The Portuguese Federation Competition for Juniors and she is pictured with her glass shield. Only one shot denied Sophie the overall nett prize which included 30 junior golfers based at golf courses the entire length of The Algarve region. Sophie, who plays out of Lyme Regis Golf Club and moved to The Algarve in September last year to embark on a planned two years of golf to further her already rosy ambitions for the sport, is making significant progress in the four months she has been overseas. As well as this success, Sophie has finished highly in medals and other handicapped competitions within her club and has caught the attention of her fellow members. After the success, Sophie had her European slope-rating handicap reduced to 11.7. She will be competing in further Portuguese Federation competitions on their circuit at a selection of top Algarve courses. She will be returning to England for the Easter and summer holidays to catch up with friends and family and play in home-based competitions at Lyme Regis Golf Club.
