The Axe Cliff ladies section enjoyed some good weather to play the introduction round of their Australian Spoon competitions, writes Pete Motson.

The format for this event is foursomes, but with freedom to change partners to improve a previous score.

It proved to be a close encounter with just a single point separating each of the top three pairs!

First place went to Margaret Kenchington and Stella Thompson, second to Alison Cook and Pauline Willis and third place went to Barbara Cummings and Jo Donmall.

Last weeks’ seniors’ Winter League meeting saw countback called into play after another close run event.

First, after countback, with a score of 35 points, were the pairing of J Hanna playing ff a handicap of 22 and P Hornsby (15).

The runners-up, also with 35 points, were T Jessup (20) and A Bishop (26) and third place went to the pairing of D Lacey (22) and T Strong (6) with 34 points.

There were two scores of two, one recorded by N Bowles and the other by T Jessup.
