Kitchen takes president's prize

The Seniors played two inter-club matches in the past week. The first at home on Friday against Wheathill resulted in a narrow win 3 ½. v 2 ½.

Winning pairings for Axe Cliff were John White/Geoff Hubbard; Gerry Turner/Malcolm Glass and Gilbert Cox/Dave Morgan. The half point was won by Mick Tomes/Jack Bannister.

On Tuesday, the team travelled to Langport for the return match with Long Sutton. Rain was always a threat and no one escaped when the heavens opened close to the finish.

The result in the end was a 4-2 win for the home club. Axe Cliff’s only winning pairing was John Hanna/Phil Christmas while half points were won by Hugh Willis/Geoff Hubbard and Peter Knighting/Iain Bain.

Ladies - This Wednesday in sunny but windy conditions the prestigious Scratch Cup was played .The winner of the Scratch Cup was Helen Kenworthy with a gross of 93. The Handicap Cup was won by Glenda Board (19) with a nett score of 76.

Men - Last Sunday the men competed for the President’s Prize.

The winner was Bill Kitchen (8) with 39 points. Second place went to Anthony Chadwick (12) with 38 points . Third place was Nigel Pritchard (11) with 36 points beating Stuart Dickson and Brian Board on the back nine.
