Axe Cliff Golf: snowy conditions ruined the weekend but the ladies played their first friendly of the season - against Vivary Park at home.

The Greensome match was played in lovely sunny weather but the sun did not help the Axe Cliff Ladies as they lost 4 v 1. Axe's winning team was Pauline Standerwick and Margaret Brown.

The ladies played their Foursomes Cup on Wednesday in glorious sunny conditions and the winning pair was Di Rogers (24) with Chris Drew (31) with a nett 81.5.

The first inter-club match of 2008 for the seniors took place at Axe Cliff on Tuesday in bright but blustery conditions.

The visitors, from Long Sutton, seemed unperturbed by the breezy welcome and repeated last year's win, this time by 41/2 points to 11/2.

The only winners from Axe Cliff were Geoff Hubbard/Bryan Dale and the half point was won by David Bruce/Norman Stone.

Because Easter fell in March this year, the medal for that month was carried forward to April and played on Friday, the 4th.

Forty-one members took part and seven of the field beat the Standard scratch. Out on his own was George East (27) with a nett 66.

Three players returned scores of nett 68 with second place on the inward half ruling going to John Mant (25) and third spot to John Pugh (19).

Keith Wilson (13) was the unlucky player to miss out on the prizes.
