County Cup matches took centre stage in Devon Women’s football this week, with Shaldon Villa and Torquay United Reserves enjoying victories.

In the Eastern Division, Crediton United came out top in a 14-goal thriller at home to the students of Exeter University, winning an incredible game 8-6, after the sides were level at 4-4 at half time.

The result was a personal triumph for Cheyenne Coakley who bagged seven goals with Chloe Hartrey getting the other one. In reply, Sally McKendry notched a hat-trick, with two goals from Simone Williams and one from Chloe Griffiths, but it was not quite enough.

There was an intriguing local derby in the East this week, with Axminster Town Ladies hosting Budleigh Salterton Ladies, a first game of the league season for the Robins.

Axminster have been the form side over the opening weeks, leading the division with their two wins, just ahead of Crediton United on goal difference.
