Nine AVR members were at Haytor on Dartmoor on Saturday evening to tackle a challenging 10k race aptly called the Haytor Heller, writes Dave Mutter.

The race was won by Torbay AC’s Arran Tocknell in 41:09 and only a minute behind in second spot was Tim Lenton, also winning the MV40 prize.

Next home was Eleanor Wood in 55:04 winning the FV55 award.

A slightly reluctant Dave Thomas, full from a cream tea, stormed home in 61:34 followed by son and father Matt Morbey, 64:06 and Alan, 65:15.

Next home was Angela Kerr, 71:25, closely followed by brother and sister, Graham Newton, freshly back from his son’s wedding in Japan, and Janet Cullum, in 71:52. Martin Kerr was pleased with his time of 81:53.

There were 254 runners in total and on this their 30th anniversary of the race; all credit must go to Teignbridge Trotters for putting on one of the best local races around.
