True to the forecast, Friday morning remained dry for the seniors to play one of their main competitions of the year, the Gordon Longhurst Cup.

Gordon was a long-standing and popular member of Honiton seniors and, when he retired from playing golf - well into his eighties - he presented the seniors with the trophy to be played for annually.

It is a very friendly 3BBB drawn competition, one to count, and last year's winners are allowed to defend their title.

Not for them this year, though; Ken Beake, Paul Ritchie and Ron Rogers came in with a creditable 36pts with a strong wind blowing.

Stan Squire, Alan Bacon and Barry Adams won the cup with an unbeatable 46pts.

Other scores: Angus Falconer, John Hill and Howard Clayton 44pts, John Lamb, John Foster and Steve Blundel 44pts - they had 24pts on the front nine; whatever happened on the back nine? - and in forth place were Gerry Tucker, Don Stroud and Peter Wells 43pts. There were seven twos, nine balls each. There was a turn-out of 90 players.
