Lyme Regis Golf Club staged their annual Golf Week in weather which was, in the main, ideal for good golf. With a full field of participants from as far afield as Dorking in Surrey and Tenerife in the Canary islands, the competitions were varied with a variety of excellent prizes on offer for both home and visiting players, writes Steve Percival.

First event of the week was an individual Stableford, which had some excellent scores carded in both of the men’s competitions, with some creditable scores also recorded by the visitors in the ladies division. Ed Lawrence of Lyme Regis carded an exceptional 41pts but was narrowly beaten into second place by Richard Lawrence on countback.The men’s visitors division saw Mr R Paul of Dorking score an excellent 40 points to take the honours over Mr P Mclaughlin of Bramshaw Golf Club, on countback. The ladies’ visitors’ competition was won by Mrs J Mclaughlin of Bramshaw GC with 36 pts.

Monday’s three ball two best scores event was won by B Dickinson, I Morgan and T Chilcott from Bramshaw Golf Club in the heart of the New Forest, with an exceptional 85 points.

Tuesday’s event was a mixed Texas Scramble. Locals from Bridport and Lyme Golf clubs won with 57.4. Second place was the team from Fingle Glen Golf Club in Exeter with 58.2.

The Wednesday four ball better ball event also saw some very impressive scores with the visiting team of A Vickery and J Ansell from Enmore taking first place with 47 pts. In the home division, current club vice captain Steve Phillips, partnered by Neil Smith, won with 41 pts.

Thursday saw a change in the weather with sunny periods interspersed by heavy rain showers. However, A Frankum of Honiton carded a creditable 38 individual Stableford points to win the visitors’ division. In the lady visitors’ division Mrs L Pinnick of Bramshaw Golf Club also scored 38 points to achieve first place. The home division saw the spoils go to Roger Seed with 36 points who narrowly beat son George on countback.

The final event was a mixed progressive Bowmaker and the visiting division was won by the team of Alice Robinson, John Ansell, Alan Vickery and Stephanie Bristow from Enmore GC with 114 points over a team from Churston. The top home team were Matt Searle, Keith Gibson, Ian Hobson and Mike Stockwell with 110 points.

Friday evening’s prize giving and dinner was attended by over 80 visiting and home golfers.
