With a distinct improvement in the weather, the club staged the Candles on the Cobb event, writes Steve Percival.

An excellent turn out of 132 competitors playing in teams of three took part with competition for men’s and ladies’ individual titles playing off full handicaps and by Stableford points. There was also a team competition using the best two scores from three per hole with individual prizes for nearest the pin and longest drives for men and women .

Results were: Gents’ winner Daric Jarvis 44 points ( H/C 25 ); runner up Gus Cleal 42 points ( H/C 16 ).

Ladies’ winner Sue Lawrence 40 points ( H/C 21 ); runner up Hanna Jacobsen 34 points ( H/C 22 ).

Team winners Daric Jarvis, Tony Johnstone, Noel Gregory 99 points; runners up Brendon Cable, Richard Kiernon , Alan Rosendale.

Nearest the Pin hole 3: Colin Baker; Nearest the Pin hole 8: Brian Ridley; Nearest the Pin hole 11: Graham Langford; Nearest the Pin hole 13: Jason Lindley.

Longest Drive Gents’: John Legg; Longest Drive Ladies: Judith Williams.

●Lyme Regis Ladies have won the DLCGA Scratch Foursomes Trophy. The Trophy was presented by Carolyn Pike, Dorset County President, at the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club last Tuesday.

The competition was played over two days (June 18 and 19) in excellent weather conditions at the Isle of Purbeck.

The first day was played as a stroke play qualifier with the top four scoring teams in each division (Scratch, Silver and Bronze) going through to the semi finals and finals on the second day.

Lyme Regis scratch team, Jane Southcombe (Dorset County Captain) and Sophie Keech, were leaders of their Division after day one. Day two produced some excellent matches in all the Divisions.

Lyme Regis scratch team won the morning semi final match against Ashley Wood (5/4) and went on to win in the final match against Yeovil (3/2).

●With the weather forecast to be wet and windy hopes were not high for successful completion of the annual Club Golf week.

However, although the weather was wet at times, the week was completed successfully with very little disruption of the week’s programme.

Following completion of the wees golf some 60 visitors and members sat down to an excellent meal for the prizegiving. Results for the week were as follows:
