Lyme Regis bowlers enjoy a brillinat week on the green

It proved to be a brilliant past week for the Lyme Regis men in their respective leagues, writes Paul Moffitt.

A total of 28 points were banked out of a maximum available of 30, this is indeed encouraging!

Lyme took all 10 points from their match against Portland BO just one week after taking nine from them on their own turf.

Lyme A had a good eight point win over Sherborne A whilst Lyme B had a long overdue 10 pointer against Bridport B. This last result achieved without the presence of captain Richard Cridge!

The ladies, alas, seem to have hit a barren patch after such a promising start to the season. They contrived to lose all 10 points against Sherborne, with only Chris Barber’s rink coming close. In the Edna Paisley, on the other hand, Lyme took all six points on offer against Greenhill.

Not a good week for friendlies either, I’m afraid, as the Club played four, lost three and drew one.

Lyme men were involved in the County Cup on Friday, drawing one of the strongest teams in the county, Greenhill. Although Lyme put up a gallant effort, both home and away, they only won on one rink, Paul Pomeroy’s rink being the one success.

On Saturday, Lyme were again invited to take part in the Howard Cottrell Trophy at Honiton, having won it last year. The quartet of Chas and Chris Barber, John Beadsley and Paul Moffitt easily eclipsed last years effort with a shot difference of plus 28. Their nearest rivals were some 15 shots behind! Will we be invited back next year?
