It's been a very busy week, and a very successful one, for the club, with good wins for the ladies and men in the leagues, writes Paul Moffitt.

Unfortunately, Lyme Two didn’t join in the success scrambling just a single point away at Dorchester.

The ladies were back to winning ways with a fine 10-0 result at home to West Moors. The highlight of the week must surely be Lyme One’s huge win away to Wellworthy.

With all rinks in scintillating form, the final score was 104-25 which is probably a club record for a league side!

More success for the ladies came when they won their second round of the June Culpin Trophy. Playing a strong two rink squad from Branksome Park they edged home by seven shots despite losing on one rink.

They are now through to the semi-finals to be played at West Moors on September 4.

This Saturday, the club hosted their annual Ladies Invitation Triples Tournament which attracted 22 teams from across the county.

It’s a fine spectacle with all the different club colours and attracted many visitors who came to watch. I even had to explain the rules, roughly, to a German lady who was watching who explained that they have nothing back home like it.

When she asked me if it was difficult to play I replied: “We do our best to make it look that way!”

The eventual winners, after all the teams had played three 55-minute sessions, were Broadstone Wessex who overcame Wellworthy in the final played over nine ends.

A superb lunch was laid on by catering manager Pauline Knight and her merry band of helpers.

The winners and runners-up were presented with their prizes by this year’s sponsors, Lesley Broom and Nola Stephens.

In the friendlies, it was played three won three, with the best result being a good win away to South Petherton.
