The weather in late September has been pretty good for the last few years so Lyme Regis Bowls Club took the decision to continue playing outdoors until the end of September, writes Jim Moseley.
Our last two games were both at Lyme Regis, a friendly against Crewkerne and our final day saw the meeting of a captain’s team and a president’s team.
The Crewkerne match saw Lyme win 95-71: B Smith, L Young, A Henson, A Weech, 21-16; J Sherring, V Henson, R Legg, P Weech, 18-15; R Bishop, J Kesterton, J Moseley, Chas Barber, 24-15; G Wright, H Dowling, A Nabarro, B Rattenbury, 22-12 and A Sherring, J Bishop, C Barber, D Meylan, 10-13.
For the final game, it was the captain’s side that came out winners as they defeated the president’s team by 72 shots to 51.
The scores were: F Sell, B Stephens, H Dowling, R Legg, 15, v D Mayo, N Benson, N Solomon, A Weech, 22; B Smith, B Moon, S Rowe, 23, v G Wright, D Courtenay-Smith, N Stephens, 5; M Knight, V Henson, S Pomeroy 11, C Pomeroy, A Henson, J Moseley, 13; L Young, J Owen, P Knight, G Mitchell, 23, v J Perry, P Stephens, R Hobbs, P Weech, 11. After the match all players sat down to mixed salad meal followed by dessert prepared by ladies of the club led by Pauline Knight. Retiring president Phil Stephens presented bouquets and bottles of wine to various club members to show his appreciation for their work in the last12 months. The Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening will be on November 4, at the Lyme Regis Golf Club. The club AGM will take place on November 17 at the clubhouse with a 7pm start.
